I Hate Hamlet

I Hate Hamlet

A young and successful TV actor relocates to New York where he rents a marvelous, gothic apartment. His television career is in limbo. Now the actor is offered the chance to play Hamlet onstage, but there's one problem: He hates Hamlet. His dilemma deepens with the entrance of John Barrymore's ghost, who arrives intoxicated and in full costume to the apartment that once was his. The contrast between the two actors -  the towering, dissipated Barrymore whose Hamlet was the greatest of his time; and Andrew Rally, hot young television star, leads to a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, television, and yes, the apartment.

"Let's Dance Bach" Baroque Dance Workshop

"Let's Dance Bach!" Dance Workshop

All will be invited to dance as if at a formal ball, taking hands in linear or circular formations, learning basic steps in duple, triple, and compound-duple meters - all with emphasis on the rhythmic qualities of the bourree, gavotte, sarabande, menuet, and more.

Come to dance or simply observe and learn about 18th century ballroom etiquette and how these steps influence musical phrasing.

In the words of one 18th century dancing master: "Dance and movement are like the body, and music is like the soul." This workshop is designed for all ages and levels of musical knowledge and dance coordination. Participants will experience how musical rhythm and dance steps are intricately linked in baroque style. While no musical or dance expertise is required to enjoy the simple elegance of the baroque dances, instrumentalists and vocalists alike will gain greater insight into the interpretation of baroque repetoire.

Baroque Dance Workshop is presented by Anchorage Festival of Music, made possible through generous support of the Atwood Foundation and many individual donors.

The Anchorage Festival of Music (AFM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing top-quality music opportunities to the people of Alaska. Founded in 1956 by local arts leader Mary Hale and legendary conductor Robert Shaw, the AFM throughout its history has provided opportunities for connecting local musicians with visiting national and international guest artists. AFM encourages Alaska's next generation through our annual Young Alaskan Artist Award. We are the only organization dedicated to providing chamber music opportunities for local musicians. AFM's annual Soiree Series of classical, jazz, and Baroque performances reaches a wide range of performers and audiences.
