The Trip to Bountiful

The Trip to Bountiful

Carrie Watts is forced by circumstances to live with her daughter-in-law who hates her and a loathsome son who does not dare take her side. Set in 1947 Houston, the unhappy family lives in a small apartment. Carrie dreams of returning to Bountiful, where she was raised. She eventually runs away and travels there by bus. Upon her arrival, Carrie sees that Bountiful is now a ghost town of empty ruins and dilapidated shacks. It doesn't matter, though: she sees Bountiful just as it was when she left it, and for the first time in years she is truly happy and at peace with herself.
There will be an opening night post show reception.

The Trip to Bountiful is presented by Anchorage Community Theatre.

The Impresario and Mozart & Salieri

TWO shows in ONE evening equal TWICE the fun!

The Impresario- This world premiere of a new English libretto by Deborah Brevoort, puts Mozart himself at the center of the story. Pitted between two dueling divas, “Madame Heartmelt” (Kira Eckenweiler) and “Madame Warblewell” (Christine Keene) who demand bigger and better parts, and his business manager “Buff” (David Haynes), who demands rewrites of the music in order to increase tickets sales, “Mozart” (Robert McPherson) struggles to reconcile the realities of commerce with the divineness of art. This one act opera is laugh out loud fun as the saucy sopranos vie for the attention (and affection) of Mozart himself.

Mozart & Salieri - This psychological drama, based on the Aleksandr Pushkin play of the same title, delves deep into the personal lives (and the rivalry) of these two great composers. Just like the hit Broadway show and movie "Amadeus", this one-act opera is based on the theory that Salieri poisoned Mozart out of envy for his musical talent. Intense and emotional, this tour-de-force two character drama portrays a realistic tragedy of intense proportions. The riveting score by Rimsky-Korsakov features thrilling quotations from Mozart’s masterpiece the “Requiem” in the thought-provoking final scene. Travel on a journey from the ‘ridiculous’ to the ‘sublime’ in this unique evening of theater. The Impresario and Mozart & Salieri...half high comedy; half intense drama; all Anchorage Opera!
