Hedda Gabler

A 21st Century Adaptation

A masterpiece not just of feminist theatre, but a lynchpin of modern drama by the father of modern Drama, Henrik Ibsen. Adapted by Jon Robin Baitz, this is a HEDDA GABLER for the twenty-first century. As a result the story becomes a more universal tragedy about all people , male or female, who find themselves trapped in a dead end of their own design. Like many great works, it is an opportunity to glimpse the real, horrible, yet often comic mechanics of emotional violence at a very close range. We all wait for something unknown that will give our lives meaning. In Ibsen’s time, a meaningful life for so many women was prohibited by powerful societal constraints. Today there is no obvious oppressor but there remains the shimmering glass ceiling of commercial culture that still makes equitable lives prohibitive for many. Starring Annia Wyndham, one of Alaska’s finest actresses playing her dream role.

Hedda Gabler is presented by Cyrano's Theatre Company.
