Scared Scriptless is Alaska's premier improv comedy troupe (ir)regularly performing in Anchorage Alaska every second and fourth Saturday of the month since May 2000. Live improv has a heightened intensity, a voyeuristic glee that comes from watching comedy without a net. A close-contact brand of improv, as fast and furious as a video game, with words and movements thrown out in a continuous mix of voices, accents and energetic motions. You just have to see it – and luckily, locally, you can.

DAY OF SHOW: CenterTix will stop selling tickets at 5:00 PM. Will call and any remaining tickets will be available at the door one (1) hour prior to show.

It’s a High-Falutin’ show in a Low-Falutin’ town! The Whale Fat Follies is the most extravagant Alaskan multi-media musical comedy ever staged, and features what Alaskans like best--Vicious political satire set to a happy, toe-tapping beat. The Follies proudly presents a live band, stunning singers and dancers, nearly 1,000 awe-inspiring images of Alaskan stupidity, and a costume budget of over Thirty-five Dollars.

The Whale Fat Follies originally ran for 21 years at Mr. Whitekeys’ Fly By Night Club, and was seen by nearly 600,000 Spam-and-Satire-loving Fans before the iconic Spenard sleazy bar closed it’s doors in 2006. This 2013 limited 30-show season is the shortest run ever for the Whale Fat Follies.

A tantalizing menu of fresh tasty American comfort cuisine and beverages is available. It’s like real dinner theater, but you don’t have to eat your vegetables.

Joining Mr. Whitekeys on stage is an All-star cast including stunning chanteuse Miss Bridget Sullivan, Cameron Morrison whose lifelong career in musical theater will be undone in 30 short nights, Justin Beaver Somaduroff on bass, Rockfish Richard Nurre on Drums, and the multi-media wizard Joey HD Murphy.

WHALE FAT FOLLIES OPENING POSTPONED ONE WEEK

Opening night of the 2013 Whale Fat Follies has been postponed until Monday, June 24. A cast member's physician has recommended light duty for a week to assure complete recovery from an injury. If we were named Joe Miller, we would appeal the ruling and cost the State of Alaska several million dollars in attorney's fees, but instead we'll just spend the week lounging in Spenard.

Ticket holders for the performances on June 17th, 18th and 19th will want to exchange their tickets into another show. CenterTix staff are ready to assist. Please call us at 263-ARTS.

[title of show] is originally a one-act musical, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and a book by Hunter Bell. The show chronicles its own creation as an entry in the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and follows the struggles of the author and composer/lyricist and their two actress friends during the initial brief (three-week) creative period, along with subsequent events leading up to the show's production.

Bonnie Prince Billy & Dawn McCarthy

Dawn McCarthy and Bonnie "Prince" Billy duets are a sensuous display of give and take that includes everything that's resonating in the room, every surface that's being pressed or rubbed or hit is a part of the action. Their harmonies are in the tradition, but they are their own, not cutting-on-the-dotted-line of Everlys magic. They have their own natural way, and it is infused in every deep moment of every song here.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy is known for his "do-it-yourself punk aesthetic and blunt honesty," and his music has been likened to Americana, folk, roots, country, punk, and indie rock. He has been called an "Appalachian post-punk solipsist" with a voice that has been described as "a fragile sort-of warble frittering around haunted melodies in the American folk or country tradition."

McCarthy's performances draw on many influences, from British, Scandinavian, Appalachian and Eastern European music. Her shows often contain elements of theater—dance and puppet shows are common elements. Her music has been compared to Ewa Demarczyk and to neo-psych-folk artists such as Devendra Banhart and Current 93.

Cowboy Junkies and Over the Rhine

Double-bill concert pairing two unique artists!

Cowboy Junkies are a Canadian alternative country/blues/folk rock band. The band was nominated for Group of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1990 and 1991. Their sound, using the ambisonic microphone, and their mix of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz earned them both critical attention and a cult following.

Over the Rhine is an Ohio-based band, husband-and-wife team of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist. Over the years, they shared the stage with Bob Dylan, John Prine, Adrian Belew, Squeeze, Ani DiFranco, My Morning Jacket, Hem, and toured as "adjunct" members of Cowboy Junkies.

Whistling Swan hosts this double-bill concert, pairing two unique artists, for the "Roots on the Rails" journeys on the Alaska Railroad.
