Dialogue - Russian Romances

May 5th

A concert program of Russian romances

Traditionally, in this genre the guitar was performing a supporting role, being a merely accompanying instrument. In the “Dialogue” the guitar becomes a full member, equal participant and interlocutor. Anna Kusner skillfully intertwined a number of melodies and rhythms from different times, countries and traditions with the melodies of the romances, creating a charming fabric of musical associations.

About the artists...

Anna Kusner is a classical guitarist. After her graduation from the State Gnessin Music College in Moscow, Anna Kusner worked several years at the Moscow Philharmonic Society in a duo with Natalya Novoselova, a singer from the Bolshoi Theater, performing Russian art songs. In 1995 Anna graduated from the Academy of Music in Jerusalem. After that Anna performed with several chamber orchestras and ensembles, appeared on Israeli TV and Radio, as well as at many music festivals. Anna recorded 16 CDs. For 20 years Anna taught classical guitar at the Conservatory of Haifa, the Conservatory of Nesher, at the School for the Arts “Reut”, at the Bar Ilan University (Tel Aviv district).

Peter Slutsky, a baritone, graduated from the Igumnov School of Music in Moscow. After immigrating to the US in 1991, Peter plunged into studying the art of operatic singing. His repertoire includes many arias from Western European classical operas, such as Figaro’s (“Marriage of Figaro”), Germont’s (“La Traviata”), Belcore’s (“Elixir of Love”), Tevye’s (“Fiddler on the Roof”). Peter also became an active promoter of Russian music. He has many Russian art songs and romances in his repertoire. The fans of Peter’s creative work always mention the deep emotional expression and the beautiful tone of his voice.
